Keeping it Simple

For this week's Kitchen Tip I thought I would share something that I have found to be a valuable lesson.

Be careful not to get stuck in the: "Really neat - Got to have it - Can't live without it" - gadget zone."

It seems there are so many gadgets and gizmo's out for today's homemaker. Many of which, are really neat to have and see. I have found however, that many of them take up space and cause me to double up on appliances. Why purchase a small appliance when I already own a large appliance that does the same job; and doesn't take up extra room?

Here are some gadgets I have done without:

*A Smoothie Maker with a convenient pour spout - - (I just use my blender and pour it out the top of the mixer pitcher.)

*A Pizza Cooker - (Just use my oven...)

*A hot chocolate maker - (Just use my stove top and a pan. The old way also is easier cleanup.)

Here are some appliances I can't live without:

*My crock pot - I use this almost everyday in the winter. I LOVE my crock pot

*My Kitchen Aid mixer - Bread Kneading is so much easier and quicker with my mixer.

* My Toaster - (Peanut Butter toast on a busy morning is a life saver!)

Each homemaker's small appliance needs will be different. What does not work for me may be a necessity to you. What small appliance in your kitchen can you not live without?

Happy cooking this week. For more Kitchen Tips hop over to Tammy's.

Great post! I can't believe all the different small appliances out there now. I guess it is all because it is a "time saver". LOL They forget that just because it is a "time saver" that it ends up being a clutter maker! LOL

I can't do without my toaster, mixer, breadmachine, rice cooker and electric knive. :)

Mine are the same as yours; crock pot, toaster and mixer with the addition of: blender and electric gridle (for pancakes, grilled cheese and quesdilla's)

Great post! I cannot live without my kitchen aid mixer, blender, toaster, crock pot, and grain mill. These are all used almost daily.

The next two purchases on my list are a Food Processor & a dehydrator. We have a 4000 square foot garden (75 tomato plants)that will give us lots of food to process, can, freeze & dehydrate this summer/fall.

I have to admit I have a smoothie maker. The first summer, I used it all the time. It really does break up ice better than my blender did. I have a Kitchenaid blender now, so guess where the smoothie maker is? Forgotten in the cabinet...probably headed towards the Salvation Army store.
And my Kitchenaid Mixer is the workhorse of my kitchen--love that thing to death!

I agree with the kitchen aid - I could not live with out mine. The second most useful gadget is what I call my "Stick Blender". I bought it on sale for $26 at Marshall Field's with 3 attachments. The attachments I use the most are the mini chopper and the actual stick blender attachment.
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!

Have a great day my friend.

I have the same things but I also have a food processor the size of a cup or 2. It is real handy.
