Some Dainties from my House

Kelli over at "There's No Place Like Home" hosts a show and tell every Friday. Hop on over and see her special treasures along with links from others who participate in this fun little activity!

I am so glad you stopped in this Friday. I would love to show you around to a few new things I have around the house. Some I acquired as gifts during the recent holidays - others I picked up here and there while I was out.

So, pull up a chair, pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea - and let me share a few "dainties" with you.

First, I thought I would share these pillow cases I found at Goodwill for $1.99 each. I thought they were beautiful. They do not "match" my bedspread - but I think they will "add" to the garden feel of my bedroom. I was able to pick up three of them - and plan on using them this weekend when I change the sheets on the bed.
Next, I thought I would show you a candle holder I picked up at another thrift store. I just *love* it. It is shaped like a tea pot / tea cup set - - but inside you can place a candle and it makes it looks so warm and homey inside the little tea cup house. The kids think it is fun to blow out the candle and watch smoke come out of the chimney. It just was too adorable to leave on the shelf - so for $2.99 I brought it home to cozy up our place here.

Now, I thought I would share a few gifts I received for Christmas. This is an old hymnbook that a dear lady in our church gave me. I actually gasped when I opened it - for I am a lover of old hymn books! This one is unique in the fact that it is a "Sabbath School" hymn book. Way back in the late 1800's they did not call Sunday School by the name we use today; but rather "Sabbath School".

Here is a date on the inside cover of the book marking it at 1862 - 1864.

Here are the pages of the hymns in this book.

I wanted to make sure I included the tea cups that my son gave me for Christmas. I think the candy cane handles are adorable. He found them at a thrift store of $.49! He was so excited to give me my snowman cups. I made sure for the first few days after Christmas I drank EVERYTHING out of one of these two cups. I am thinking that I will have to keep these out for everyday use - all throughout the year. Every time I use them I think of how greatly I am loved by my family. I am blessed.

Along with the tea cups my daughter bought me a snowman ornament. They seem to know I like snowmen. I like snowmen because the are fat and fluffy and everyone thinks they are cute. (I just wish it worked that way in real life. :)

Lastly, I though I would share a "biscuit holder" that I received for Christmas. It is now sitting on my husband's dresser where I plan on putting change I find around the house - and in my purse. We are preparing to be on the road full time in our new ministry this fall. I am thinking that we will need all the spare change we can get for this new venture in faith. (I would have some change in there now - but I used it this morning to get a cup of coffee - shame on me! lol

I think it is the little things that make our house a home. Warm inviting things that say - I love living here and making life beautiful for my family. Momentous things that reminded us that we are loved and that others think of us and pray for us. I want my home to be a blessing to all who walk in - a respite from the hurry of life - a still place where reflection can take place on the things that really matter in life. God - our families - and others.

I am so glad that you stopped in for a visit today. Thanks for dropping in. I am so glad you did!

Blessings,

~Martie

Your last paragraph is my same desire for my home.

I love the pillowcases! And they match your blog so well! :-)

That teapot candle holder is so cute -- I can just picture it with smoke coming out!

What a wonderful hymn book! And I love those sweet teacups and the little snowman and biscuit holder (I would not have know that's what that was).

You're inspiring me to head out to the thrift store soon!

Pretty little nest you have there!
I'm the lady with the mamma hen and chicks- well, not now, but again in the spring no doubt! Although one year a particular hen hid and hatched out a dozen or so chicks in the middle of a snow storm in the month of January! They all survived and ly eggs for me now. *U*

You sure did 'good' with your thrift shopping and you gifts. I am in love with the hymnal. I used to collect them and had only half a dozen or so, but they were very old. I left them in Alaska. (You just can't bring everything.) thank you for sharing in S&T today.

Wow! Each one of those items would have made a great Show and Tell individually! I feel you gave us a real bonus showing all of them. I like everything, I bet the pillow cases look great on your bed! I have several "tea for one" teapot sets, but haven't seen one like yours, it's neat! The snowman cups are beautiful, tell him we all are admiring them! Cute little snowman too!

The Sabbath School hymnal is a real treasure.

Hmmm, what am I forgetting? Oh, the biscuit jar, so pretty! I saw one today in Ross, almost bought it, now I wish I had!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Martie,

Thank you for stopping by my site today and leaving a nice comment.
I hope you will visit often.

I enjoyed looking at the different displays in your home, but I especially like the candle holder. It is so pretty and yet unusual looking. I am going to have to start going to thrift stores more often.

Hi Becky K and Sondra,

My family and I will be heading out on the road ministering in churches and focusing on family issues. (Similiar to evangelism - - but our focus will be families and family issues). We are in the process of getting a website and a blog page about the ministry. As soon as we get that up - I will post about it. Thanks for your interest in the ministry - we are VERY excited.

Blessings,
~Martie
